Mr. Xi declared that the campaign to eradicate poverty was 'all won'.
The Chinese President declared a "complete victory" in his campaign to eradicate extreme poverty when attending the country's achievement marking event.
China today held a nationwide commendation conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the country's achievements in its campaign to eradicate extreme poverty.
A total of 10 people and 10 collective units from different classes were awarded the national title.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Xi said that the work of eradicating extreme poverty in rural China has "won completely".
The Chinese leader also mentioned 1,800 people "died" on the front lines of the fight against poverty.
According to Chinese media, after eight years, China has lifted nearly 100 million people in rural areas out of poverty, reaching the goal of eradicating extreme poverty 10 years before the UN deadline.
China defines rural extreme poverty as those earning an average of less than 4,000 yuan ($ 620) a year, or about $ 1.52 a day.
In the "Policy Document No. 1" released on February 22, China announced it would closely follow its policies on poverty reduction, and made some adjustments to its five-year transition.
