Power Cord Removal was the Only Hitch.
After 25 years, my old garbage disposal died (impeller fell off). It appeared to have been made PHCC. I was hoping to get one that was identical, but couldn't find anything about PHCC disposal except on-line questions from other people who were equally lost. As it worked out, the connections were identical (see attached picture). Maybe PHCC became Waste-King? I was able to use the existing sink flange which was helpful and saved time, but replacing it doesn't seem to hard to do. The one difficulty was related to the power cord. Before I bought it, I read the answers to the frequently asked questions and one of them said that making the connections to a hard wired system wasn't any problem, just follow the instructions in the manual. I downloaded the manual, it seemed easy enough, so I bought the disposal. Well, there is no way to remove the cord easily and the grommet that holds it in place is thick hard rubber. The manual that came with the disposal was devoid of instructions on how to remove it. After chipping away at it for about 20 minutes, I was able to remove it (with a chisel and pair of dikes). It wasn't that hard, but it clearly wasn't something that was ever meant to be disassembled. After I removed the power cord, the whole job took about 65 minutes (I could easily do it in under 45 minutes the second time around). The new disposal is much quieter and smoother than the old one. I'm very pleased with the disposal and the price, hence I gave it 5 stars despite the issue with the power cord.

Great value, easy to install.
Compact and modern very easy to install. Everything needed was in the package, I was able to use my existing outlet flange as they appear to be a standard. The sink adapter that came with the unit is all you need, i've seen a number of reviews that suggest that you buy the Adapter to unit which would make the dusposal a lot lower taking up more space. The trick is to pop off the old adapter sometimes it has a set up that you need to remove first. That unit had a plug in the dishwasher connection that I had forgotten to take out which caused my dishwasher to stop working, after knocking the plug out the unit worked perfectly. I have not had the chance yet to test the disposal in real life, it is a lot quieter than the old one which started leaking when the internal motor seal went out. I chose this unit because it was a higher horsepower than our old 1/3 hp unit and it had good reviews in additionally the price was hard to beat. It took me 20 minutes to get those unit out and the new unit in, The only tool I needed was a screwdriver. I did not bother using plumbers putty on the sink, however I did use a screwdriver to just wipe off the old party then with a paper towel to clean it up before putting the new rubber gasket in the new sink insert in.

Slim profile and easy install
I am by no means an expert DIY plumber, or even a decent one. I once broke a brand new porcelain toilet while trying to install it because I am so inept. Seriously, I'm horrible at installing anything. However, this disposal installation was AMAZINGLY easy to perform. Follow the instructions and it's hard to mess this up. Took me about 30 minutes. (The hardest part was removing the old disposal). Per the instructions, if you do not have a STAINLESS STEEL SINK, you will need to use plumbers putty instead of the rubber gasket, so know what your sink is made of so you can buy the putty ahead of time if you need it, ($4 at my local hardware store). If it is stainless steel, everything you need should be in the box. It is a thinner profile unit than my old one so it takes up much less space. I will be buying another one for our other house.

Worked flawlessly for 2 years, then jammed, easy to un-jam.
I bought this in March of 2017 and I was pretty happy with: the installation was a breeze, easy to unscrew and re-tighten when needed, worked well, powerfull enough. A week ago (2 weeks before expiration of the factory warranty) it stopped working. Flip the switch and you can hear the motor being energized, but nothing happens. UPDATE: I was finally able to speak with a customer service person (you have to adhere to their business hours) but hey were very nice, and in less than 5 minutes they sent me instructions to “unjam” the unit, which as really easy to donwith a wooden spoon. Flipped the switch and worked perfect.

Great, easy for female to instal too!
So to start I'm a 28 year old female . For some reason I get stuck doing all the plumbing in the house so when someone ran the garbage disposal with a rag down there it broke my insinkerator. It was old and dull and definitely in need of replacing. So I did some research and ordered this one after going to my nearest home depot. They cheapest one they had was 89.99 and then they went up. So I ended up ordering this one and it fit well with the existing piping that was ran. The only small issue I had was it was a little difficult to get the disposal itself up on to the brackets to hold it into place. It took my husband's help because I just wasnt strong enough to hold it into place and turn it at the same time. That's about it. I didnt really need directions considering I took apart my old one and then figured out I needed a new one. But they were handy when putting the black rubber ring on. Run smooth. Less noisy than the old one. No problems so far.

Very compact & quiet but powerful!
I can put fruit peels, veggies, meats and leftover foods in there and it grinds & disintegrates it without a hiccup. I'm a bit afraid to put bones or apple cores or whole carrots inside b/c it so small and quiet but I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if it disintegrated those items too b/c it's worked so well thus far. Installation was also a breeze for me but did take four hands at times so have a helper if possible. I'm a young woman but am very savvy when it comes to anything Home Improvement related so all I did was watch a couple of YouTube videos and installed this in about 30 minutes without any leaks or a hitch on the first try. In fact it was so easy that I thought I was doing something wrong! :) So for a small apartment with a family of 2-3 I'd say this lil powerful garbage disposal is just perfect!

Helpful Hint
I am happy with the product. I was extremely happy with the customer service I got from Anaheim Manufacturing, the maker of Waste King ( [...] )when I had a small installation problem. When installing the "cushion mount" it is extremely important that it be installed in the lowest possible position "the plastic of the "sink flange" should not be visible. Disposer is impossible to attach if wrong, a breeze if it is positioned properly. This is not clear in the instructions. If used as a replacement disposer, be aware that the plumbing outlet may be at a different height than the original. I was lucky to have the parts available to make the change. The outlet center on the 1001 model is approx. 6 1/2 inches below the sink bottom. This disposer has no allen wrench fitting on the bottom to help fix jams, a wooden spoon is recommended.

Ten years and counting with the Waste King L-1001
Purchased in 2007, Austin, TX. After removing the old disposal and cleaning off the drain hole I spread a bead of Plumbers GOOP (any store stocking adhesives) around the drain hole; a bead on the bottom lip of the drain adapter; place the gasket for the sink on the adapter; a bead of adhesive onto the rubber seal that goes on before the large plastic nut; a bead of adhesive into the threads where the drain is tightened; place the adapter into the sink drain; put the rubber seal onto the adapter and tighten the large nut firmly onto the adapter. Have had no problems with the disposal that is used aggressively in these 10 years without any leaking or it coming loose from vibration. I also installed the same disposal for MIL in 2008 which is still operating strong. Edited review: MIL's 2008 disposal bit the dust in Feb 2017 and was replaced using the same L-1001 disposal.

Easy installation. Much quieter then the old one
Delivered as promised. Very simple swap out with old disposal. Took 30 minutes. Just make sure you knock out the plug for the dishwasher drain line if you have one. I did everything with a flat tip screwdriver. Pictures show product unpacked, old disposal, removed, plug knocked out, new drain collar in place,, new disposal in place, looking down throat and with removable drain guard installed. Then plug and play! Easy installation. Much quieter then the old one. Less vibration. Good build quality. Old one lost it's seal. Went from a1/3 HP to this 1/2 HP. Very pleased so far. Just from the quality build appearance alone. Only time will tell but I think she's a winner... Old disposal only lasted 2 and 1/2 years. Was way louder even when new...

Exact fit for Sinkmaster 701
My old waste disposal finally quit. Since we are light users (we always use a strainer to catch waste and put in garbage), this seems to be a good choice. Installed it today and we are quite happy with it. 1. It is an exact fit for our old Sinkmaster 701. I used all the parts in the package; no extra parts are needed. 2. The instruction is very clear and easy to follow. For a task like this, I usually watch youtube videos first, but there was no need this time. 3. Some people mentioned a loud noise when it is turned on. It is indeed like that. The noise is louder when there is no water, lower if with running water. 4. One thing worth noted are the outlets under the sink. One of them is controlled by the switch; the other is always on. Of course it makes sense because the former is for the waste disposal; the latter is for the dishwasher.
