Log Cabin With A Twist

Great Book
Love the book. It has good variety and gives you ideas of how to make your own designs using this method. I have 2 of RaNae Merrill's books and this book is a lot like hers. If you want easy piecing, this book is not for you. It involves paper piecing with some pieces of material being small and has lots of seams. The designs can be very intricate. The book has a coloring page for each design that you can copy and color. Pick your colors, color, then make copies of your colored block. You can now move and rotate the blocks to see what designs you can come up with. Try different colors in different orders and try again. There are endless ways to place the fabric to get a totally different looks. I love this type of work so is right down my path.
Informative And Well Written
Beautiful pictures, excellent, well-written directions, even for someone who gets things jumbled very easily. The projects are outlined meticulously, so even though the results look impossibly complicated, if you're willing to put in the work, you can execute them. The quilts won't go together fast. This technique takes time and attention. Samples let the quilter see how shape, color and value can be used to create effects so varied that it's hard to recognize that they are all different editions of the same procedure. It's not for beginners, so be advised that you'll have a easier time if you have a few quilts under your belt before tackling these. It's also helpful if you have some experience with paper piecing. This book is an excellent adjunct to those of RaNae Merrill. Her forte is taking this technique to another level, and her methods, using translucent foundations, help the execution go much more smoothly. Merrill shows how you can use the same technique to make spirals, taking it well beyond the twisted log cabin blocks. Both her spiral and mandala books, and this one, as well, plumb the depth of the endless possibilities for using these blocks to transform your quilts into works of art. This book is a valuable resource, and an excellent starting point.
Super intricate and interesting patterns
This book is full of amazing patterns for the log cabin quilt. The ideas in this book are amazing, and your quilt will never look like a traditional log cabin, but one that is full of interesting colors and design.
Very original and clearly written.
This book is a great addition to a quilting library. Carefully describes how to design your own blocks in many geometric shapes, gives full-color examples, and provides pages to copy to color in to audition your fabric choices. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to experiment with log cabin block designing.
A challenge
This book has some very challenging techniques and quilts. The opportunity to be exceptionally creative is there if you wish or you can follow a pattern as shown and create a very personal quilt. I have really enjoyed reading through it and look forward to using it to create. It is not for the beginner nor for those who are afraid of color.

Great Book
Very informative and full of new ideas my wife loves. She said it was going to help her learn a lot of new techniques. Winner all the way around.
A Fun Quilt Block
I am still in the process of making blocks but this is such a fun way to do a log cabin block/quilt/wall hanging.
